Read the information in this readme file if you want to establish an authenticated session with a client system and the baseboard management controller on an IBM eServer(R) 325 Type 8835 server. 2.0 OVERVIEW The Baseboard Management Controller Authentication Utility (26K3279.exe) is a client-based application that is used to authenticate a client system with the baseboard management controller on the IBM eServer 325 Type 8835 server. To connect a client system to the baseboard management controller through the Telnet port of the baseboard management controller, you must first establish a baseboard management controller authentication session. 26K3279.exe is a tool used to establish the authentication session. After the authentication session is established, you can establish a Telnet connection to the baseboard management controller from the client system. The baseboard management controller authentication session must remain active throughout the Telnet session. If you have enabled console redirection over LAN, the first Telnet connection that is established will be used for the console redirection. If a second Telnet connection is established, it will be used for a command line interface (CLI). For information about setting up console redirection over LAN, see the "IBM eServer 325 Type 8835 User's Guide." 3.0 CLIENT OPERATING-SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS The following operating systems supported the Baseboard Management Controller Authentication Utility on the client system: o Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 o Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional o Microsoft Windows XP o Microsoft Windows XP Professional 4.0 USING THE AUTHENTICATION UTILITY Complete the following steps to use the Baseboard Management Controller Authentication Utility: 1. Install the Baseboard Management Controller Authentication Utility on a client system; then, double-click "26K3279.exe". Note: If you install the utility on an eServer 325 server, you cannot use the utility to establish a baseboard management controller authentication session to a baseboard management controller that is on the same eServer 325 server as the authentication utility. 2. Type the IP address of the baseboard management controller on the eServer 325 server to which you want to establish an authentication session. 3. Type the user name and password of the login account that you want to use. The default administrator user name and password is NULL / NULL. To log in using the default administrator account, leave the "User Name" and "Password" fields blank. For information about configuring the login account settings for the baseboard management controller, see the IBM eServer 325 Type 8835 Technical Update "Configuring the baseboard management controller LAN connection." 4. Click the "Logon" button. The text on the "Logon" button will change to "Logging on (Abort)". The baseboard management controller authentication session is established and you can use a Telnet application (for example, HyperTerminal) to connect the client system to the Telnet port of the baseboard management controller. 5. To terminate the baseboard management controller authentication session, complete the following steps: a. Click the "Baseboard Management Controller Authentication Utility" icon (it might be named "KeepAlive") in the system tray (lower right of the screen). b. Click the "Logging on (Abort)" button (it might be named "Disconnect"). Note: For security, terminate the baseboard management controller authentication session each time you are finished using a Telnet session. 5.0 REFERENCES For information about configuring the baseboard management controller LAN settings, see the IBM eServer 325 Type 8835 Technical Update "Configuring the baseboard management controller LAN connection."
