1. OVERVIEW

   This file contains information about the Adaptec HostRAID
   SATA Driver for 32-bit Linux Operating Systems.
   
   It describes supported hardware,supported Operating System 
   versions, software features, installation instructions, known
   limitations, and other pertinent subject matter.
   
2. SUPPORTED HARDWARE

   The following hardware is supported by this driver:

3. 32-BIT LINUX OPERATING SYSTEMS SUPPORT
   
   - Red Hat Linux 3 QU6, QU7
   - Red Hat Linux 4, QU2, QU3 
   - SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9, SP2, SP3 


4. SOFTWARE FEATURES

   - Supports Raid 0, 1, and 10
   - Supports the ability to boot from supported Raid devices

5. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

   Please refer to the Device Driver Installation Instructions 
  (DEVDRV.PDF) provided in the \Books directory on this CD-ROM.


6. COMMAND LINE OPTIONS
     
   User options: Queue Depth setting per lun

	Command line parameter passes in via insmod:
	#insmod <ModuleName>.o hr_user_cmd_per_lun=<QueueDepthValue>
		Example:  #insmod adpahciXX.o hr_user_cmd_per_lun=48

	Command line parameter setup permanently:
	For 2.4 kernels
	a) Edit /etc/modules.conf to add in 
		“options <DriverName> ‘hr_user_cmd_per_lun=<QueueDepthValue’"
			Example: options adpahciXX ‘hr_user_cmd_per_lun=48’
	b) Rebuild initrd then reboot.

	For 2.6 kernels
	a) Edit /etc/modprobe.conf to add in 
		“options <DriverName> ‘hr_user_cmd_per_lun=<QueueDepthValue’"
			Example: options adpahciXX ‘hr_user_cmd_per_lun=48’
	b) Rebuild initrd then reboot.



7. FILE DESCRIPTIONS
   
   Most files associated with the 32-bit Linux HostRAID SATA driver are 
   located in the following directory:

   o ServeRAID_v1_30\linux\sata\driver\adpahci directory.

  
8. Known Issues and LIMITATIONS

   8.1  Arrays with non-configured disk drives

	During an OS installation, When an array exists along with 
	non-configured disk drives,those disk drives will enumerate 
	and report non-configured drives as the first drives in the 
        order. Mark the intended boot array as "bootable" so the OS 
        will enumerate and list that boot array first during the OS 
        installation.

   8.2 Array member’s display as rebuilding after a source member fails

       If the source member of a rebuilding array fails, the array will go offline 
       and the state of the remaining members will display as rebuilding. Since the 
       source member is in an offline or dead state, the driver will help preserve 
       the data and not change the state of the array members until the next system 
       boot. To correct the state of the remaining members, reboot the system or 
       reload the driver.

       Note: When hot spares were added, the previous failed source member also 
             displayed as rebuilding.
