Abstract: G40 (6542-103) DISPLAY GOES BLANK IN WINDOWS 95 SYMPTOM: Each time the system is restarted, the display goes blank shortly after "Starting Windows 95..." is displayed on the screen. No error messages are displayed. PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS: This tip applies to IBM PC300GL systems, Machine Types 6561 and 6591, where the operating system (Windows95) has been restored from the supplied backup CDROM. The condition is not seen in systems using the factory preloaded operating system and G40 displays. FIX: Edit the MONITOR6.INF file in the C:\Windows directory to correct the condition. To recover from the blank display condition, the system must be restarted in Windows95 "Safe Mode." Once video is restored, remove the display entry in Device Manager and restart the system. The G40 display type and device drivers should be correctly re-detected and installed on the first restart of Windows95. Using NOTEPAD, open the file MONITOR6.INF and remark out (REM) the line that refers to display model G41 in the (IBM) section. Save the change and restart Windows95.
