PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS: This tip applies to IBM PC300GL Series 6561/6591 systems preloaded with Windows95 OSR-2 and configured with a 32X CD-ROM drive. The slowed CD-ROM performance condition may also be seen in other systems preloaded with Windows95 OSR-2 and configured a 32X CD-ROM drive. FIX: Remove the preloaded Intel Busmaster IDE device driver and install the native Windows95 IDE device driver. To Remove the Intel Busmaster Driver: 1. Create the Intel Win95 Busmaster driver Z23T11A.EXE on a diskette from the RTC, or the IBM PC web site URL: www.us.pc.ibm.com/files.html 2. Insert the Intel Busmaster driver diskette into the A: drive. 3. Open a DOS window and type "a:setup". Press . 4. After the install Wizard starts, click the NEXT button in the Welcome panel. 5. Click the DE-INSTALL button in the Select Components panel. 6. The driver will be de-installed. You will then be asked to restart Windows. Click "OK", and remove the diskette from the A: drive. 7. When the system reboots, the Update Device Driver Wizard will appear. Do NOT reinsert the Intel Busmaster driver diskette. Click NEXT, and the Wizard will locate the native Windows95 OSR2.x driver "Intel 82371AB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller" on the hard disk. Click the NEXT button. 9. When prompted to restart the system, click YES. If there is more than one IDE device in the system, you may be prompted to restart Windows95 more than once.
