H164427: NETFINITY 3500: OS/2 WARP SERVER SMP V4.0 INSTALL HANGS SYMPTOM: During installation of OS/2 Warp Server SMP v4.0 from shrinkwrap, the System may Hang during installation of diskette #1. PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS: All of the following must be true for this TIP to apply: - The System is a Netfinity server 3500 type 8644 model 10U/10X/20U/20X/21U/21X/30U/30X - The System's ethernet is disabled (this can be determined from Setup & configuration utilities). - The System hangs when OS/2 Warp Server SMP v4.0 is being installed from shrinkwrap (See Symptom above). FIX: Go to the following URL and follow the Netfinity 3500 NOS Installation Instructions for OS/2 Warp Server SMP v4.0. http://www.pc.ibm.com/support - click on "IBM Server Support" - click on "Netfinity 3500" in the "select family" window - click on "Software information" under "technical information" - click on "Netfinity3500 - Installing OS/2 Warp Server SMP v4.0" ---------------------- OR ------------------------------------ 1- Install Warp 4.0 using ServerGuide 4.0.1 or later. DETAIL: The problem is that OS/2 Warp uses interrupt 13 for SCSI support during the beginning of the installation. This in combination with the resources that the Ethernet Adapter uses results in the above described symptom. The fix is to use the SCSI Driver for the onboard SCSI Controller during the OS/2 installation which is accomplished using the diskettes described above. NOTE: ServerGuide version 4.0.1 includes the correct SCSI driver to resolve this issue. Date: Auguest 19, 1998
