H165434:  ECA025: NETFINITY 5000 - HOT SWAP BACKPLANE REPLACEMENT


 PURPOSE:

 This ECA provides for the replacement of hot swap backplanes in
 a limited number of Netfinity 5000 systems.

 This is a mandatory ECA and must be applied to eligible systems.

 Use the system serial number list (eca025sn.txt) as a guide to
 determine if the ECA applies to the system.

 If your system contains Hot Swap Backplane Assembly FRU
 p/n20L1435 (tower model) or FRU p/n20L1434 (rack model) then it
 must be replaced.

  USA:
    This ECA does not apply to systems which contain the
    Hot Swap Backplane Assembly FRU p/n61H3255 (tower) or
    FRU p/n61H3254 (rack).

  EMEA:
    This ECA also applies to systems which contain the Hot Swap
    Backplane Assembly FRU p/n61H3255 (tower) or FRU p/n61H3254
    (rack), if they do not have a piece of mylar tape located on
    the drive side of the card between the mounting holes next to
    the LED's for J9 & J10.

 - The system's Hot Swap Backplane is one of the following:

     USA:
        TOWER Models - FRU p/n20L1435.

        RACK Models  - FRU p/n20L1434.

     EMEA:
        TOWER Models - FRU p/n20L1435 or
                       FRU p/n61H3249 (without mylar tape).

        RACK Models  - FRU p/n20L1434 or
                       FRU p/n61H3248 (without mylar tape).

 - The system's serial number is included in the file, available
   for download from the following URL as "eca025sn.txt":

 DETAIL:

 Replace the Hot Swap Backplane Assembly as follows:

     Tower: replace the Hot Swap Backplane with FRU p/n61H3255.

     Rack : replace the Hot Swap Backplane with FRU p/n61H3254.

     NOTE: FRU p/n61H3248 and 61H3249 (ordered from Mechanicsburg
     or Amsterdam) will have the mylar tape.

 Refer to the HMM section "Hot Swap Backplane Assembly Removal"
 for instructions on removing the backplane assembly.

 View the FRU number (may not see the letters "FRU") on
 the Hot Swap Backplane Assembly.

 Note: The FRU number is located on the bottom of the
 daughterboard that attaches to the hot-swap backplane.

 NOTES:

  THIS ECA IS "MANDATORY".

  THIS ECA WILL EXPIRE JUNE 30, 2005.

  USA:
    IBM TSS CE's should record all time and parts to
    Service Code 33, ECA025, Other Office 990.

    Travel Time = 0.8Hrs.

  EMEA:
    IBM PSS CE's should record all time and parts to
