H166172:  MULTI-SERVERAID: MISCELLANEOUS EVENTS OCCUR IN THE EVENT LOG


 SYMPTOM:

 Large number of soft and miscellaneous events occur in the
 ServeRAID soft event log and device event table.

 PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

 - The system is any of the following IBM servers that support
 any one of the ServeRAID Adapters:

      a Netfinity 7000-M10 server, Type 8680, any Model.
      a Netfinity 7000 server, Type 8651, any Model.
      a Netfinity 5500-M20 server, Type 8662, any Model.
      a Netfinity 5500-M10 server, Type 8661, any Model.
      a Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any Model.
      a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any Model.
      a Netfinity 3500 server, Type 8644, any Model.
      a Netfinity 3000 server, Type 8476, any Model.
      a Netfinity 704 server, Type 8650, any Model.
      a PC Server 720, Type 8642, any Model.
      a PC Server 520, Type 8641, any Model.
      a PC Server 330, Type 8640, any Model.
      a PC Server 325, Type 8639, any Model.
      a PC Server 320, Type 8640, any Model.
      a PC Server 315, Type 8638, any Model.
      a PC Server 310, Type 8639, any Model.

 - The system is configured any combination of 2 of the
 following type of ServeRAID Adapters:

     ServeRAID Adapter FRU p/n06H9334 (Option p/n70G8489)
     ServeRAID Adapter FRU p/n76H6875 (Option p/n70G8489)
     ServeRAID II Adapter FRU p/n76H3587 (Option p/n76H3584)
     ServeRAID-3H Adapter FRU p/n01K7396 (Option p/n01K7207)
     ServeRAID-3L Adapter FRU p/n01K7352 (Option p/n01K7364)

 - The system is configured with ServeRAID Administration
 Utility (any version) with Logical Drive Migration (LDM)
 running and logical drive in critical state (1 DDD drive).

 - All firmware versions are affected for the ServeRAID Adapter.

 - NOS affected:
      Novell NetWare version 4.2 w/ IWSP6 applied.

 FIX:

 - This problem will be fixed in next BIOS/Firmware release.

 - It will be available from the following URL:

 WORKAROUND:

 - Do not run LDM with a DDD drive.
 - Reduce the amount of network activity during LDM.

 DETAILS:

 This problem may occur when the system's cache is highly
 utilized, a logical drive is in critical state (1 DDD drive)
 and 2 types of ServeRAID Adapters are installed. This problem
 has only been able to be replicated in development test when a
 drive goes DDD during an "add to free array space" LDM
 operation in NetWare v4.2 with IWSP6, a large amount of network
 activity, and two types of ServeRAID adapters installed in the
 system.

 Note: It may occur with other operating systems if the
 conditions regarding highly utilized cache with a critical
 logical drive are met, but development has not been able to
 replicate in any other operating system environment besides
 NetWare.
