Flash BIOS update - bootable diskette version for IBM(R) ThinkCentre(R) 8183, 8184, 8185, 8186, 8187, 8188, 8189, 8190, 8192, 8193, 8194, 8195, 8196, 8197, 8320, 8416, 8418, 8419, 8432, 8433 Version 2AKT39A Installation README This package updates the basic input/output system (BIOS) on IBM ThinkCentre 8183, 8184, 8185, 8186, 8187, 8188, 8189, 8190, 8192, 8193, 8194, 8195, 8196, 8197, 8320, 8416, 8418, 8419, 8432, and 8433 systems. BIOS is programming that controls low-level hardware operations, including interactions with diskette drives, hard disk drives, and the keyboard. The BIOS is stored on a chip. Your computer uses flash BIOS, which can be updated through a program on a flash diskette so that you do not have to replace the BIOS chip to update the BIOS. Note: Make note of any settings you have changed in the BIOS Configuration Utility. These settings may have to be re-entered after updating the BIOS. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file, be sure to select a path that does not have a space in it's name. Extracting the update --------------------- Installing this update involves creating a BIOS flash diskette and running the flash program from the diskette. Before you begin, have a blank 1.44 MB diskette ready. 1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and Folders. 2. Insert a blank 1.44MB floppy diskette into the diskette drive. 3. Type 2ajt39.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This will locate the file you just downloaded. 4. Double-click the 2ajt39a.exe icon. 5. Follow the onscreen prompts. The necessary files will be extracted to the diskette. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Close all open applications. 2. Leave the diskette in the A: drive, and shut down and restart the computer to start the BIOS flash program. 3. When you are prompted to select a country, press the number on your keyboard which corresponds to the country in which you are using the computer. For example, press 1 for the United States. 4. Press Enter. You will be asked if you wish to update the serial number of your machine. 5. Press N. You will be asked if you wish to update the machine type/model number of your machine. 6. Press N. The Phoenix Phlash16 utility will appear onscreen. 7. Wait until you see a message stating -------------Phoenix Phlash16 Status------------- | | | Flash memory has been successfully programmed | | | | PRESS KEY TO RESTART THE SYSTEM | | If the system does not restart | | TURN THE POWER OFF, THEN ON | | | ------------------------------------------------- 8. Remove the diskette from the diskette drive. 9. Press Enter. Flash Changes ------------- General Information: 2AJTxxA is the flash diskette level. 2AKTxxA is the binary image level. (BIOS) NOTE: All changes carry forward. That is, if a change is added in 01, it is also in 02, 03 etc. Changes for 24KTxxA/24JTxxA: 2AKT39A/2AJT39A - Fixes a violation of the USB 1.1 specification for Reset Recovery Time - Corrects the display of accented characters in some languages at runtime. For example, the boot password prompt. - Fixes a problem where BIOS ACPI IRQ 10 or 11 causes Windows XP to hang - Fixes SMBIOS structure 24 information about passwords 2AKT38A/2AJT38A - Fixes a problem where pressing F12 causes the system to boot to the PreDesktop Area - Adds a feature so that if the processor temperature is above 65 degrees C at the beginning of POST (indicating a very fast temperature rise), the fans are set to 50% instead of 20% - Adds microcode for Intel Prescott 0F34 (D-1) processor - Fixes a problem where pressing the Enter key, followed by a 2nd Enter key to pause, followed by F1 does not enter setup as expected 2AKT37A/2AJT37A - Fixes a problem where the mouse moves erratically in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 by flushing the keyboard controller output buffer on resume from Advanced Power Management (APM) standby - Fixes a problem in WinPhlash that causes error "-151" (Unable to find part ID) 2AKT36A/2AJT36A - Adds new SMI function - Adds the D-0 processor patch to the flash diskette - Fixes a problem where a system may intermittently hang during the memory test of the Enhanced Power On Self Test (POST) 2AKT35A/2AJT35A - Fixes a problem where a system loses of time during APM standby under Windows NT4 and DOS - Fixes a problem where a system with a ScrollPoint II PS/2 mouse hangs at TP52 - Updates the thermal control for Intel Prescott processors - Fixes a problem that occurs when performing a BIOS flash update from Remote Deployment Manager (RDM) 4.1 2AKT34A/2AJT34A - Fixes a problem where USB port 6 and port 7 are not available in BIOS 33A (applies only to ThinkCentre A50 and S50 systems) 2AKT33A/2AJT33A - Fixes a problem where the front USB ports do not disable. Due to a hardware limitation in the S50 product, the front ports can only be disabled by disabling all USB. The M50 and A50 products will display the setup question. - Fixes a persistent 1762 (number of hard disk drives has changed) POST error when startup "Power On Self Test" = Enhanced and four hard disk drives are present. (If your system is displaying 1762 or 0162, you must clear the errors by entering Setup and selecting "Save Settings And Exit" either before or after upgrading the BIOS). 2AKT32A/2AJT32A - Fixes a problem with boot block recovery with H-L GSA-4040B DVD+RW drive (requires bootblock update) - Fixes a problem where there is no video after standby/resume with a USB RAK3 keyboard - Fixes a problem where Wake On LAN does not boot to the automatic startup sequence - Updates Machine Type/Model table - Provides a new version of the onboard Gigabit Ethernet (GE v1.2.16p1) 2AKT31A/2AJT31A - Fixes boot block recovery with some CD-RW drives (requires bootblock update) - Fixes boot block recovery with new revision of Teac USB floppy drive (requires bootblock update) - Adds setup question to enable or disable the front USB ports - Improves efficiency of PCI memory allocation to take up less overall address space - Fixes POST hang when PATA is Disabled and SATA is Native - Fixes 1805 POST error with certain old PCI cards 2AKT29A/2AJT29A - Fixes a problem where the CGA font is not found - Fixes a problem where POST HotKeys may not by recognized with POV systems - Fixes an ethernet failure by resetting the ethernet controller on normal (S4/S5) powerup 2AKT28A/2AJT28A - This was an internal release.
