Flash BIOS update - Flash from Operating System version for ThinkCentre(R) 8122, 8123, 8124, 8129, 8131, 8132, 8133, 8134, 8135, 8136, 8137, 8138, 9212, 9213 Version 2FKT15A Installation README This package updates the basic input/output system (BIOS) on ThinkCentre 8122, 8123, 8124, 8129, 8131, 8132, 8133, 8134, 8135, 8136, 8137, 8138, 9212, and 9213 systems. BIOS is programming that controls low-level hardware operations, including interactions with diskette drives, hard disk drives, and the keyboard. The BIOS is stored on a chip. Your computer uses flash BIOS, which can be updated through a program on a flash diskette so that you do not have to replace the BIOS chip to update the BIOS. Note: Make note of any settings you have changed in the BIOS Configuration Utility. These settings may have to be re-entered after updating the BIOS. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. Extracting the update --------------------- 1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and Folders. 2. Type 2fjy15usa.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This will locate the file you just downloaded. 3. Double-click the 2fjy15usa.exe icon. 4. Click Next. Read the license agreement 5. Click I Agree. The installation folder should be C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\2FJY15US. 6. Click Finish. You will be prompted with a message stating "The specified output folder does not exist. Create it?" 7. Click Yes. You will be prompted with a message stating "The package has been delivered successfully." 8. Click OK. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Close all open applications. 2. Click Start, then click Run. 3. Type C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\2FJY15US\WINPHLASH.EXE. 4. Click OK. 5. Select Backup BIOS and Flash BIOS with new settings. 6. Click Flash BIOS. You will told to save your work and close all other applications. 7. Click OK. Your system will automatically shutdown and restart so that the changes will take effect. Flash Changes ------------- General Information: 2FJTxxA is the flash diskette level. 2FKTxxA is the binary image level. (BIOS) NOTE: All changes carry forward. That is, if a change is added in 01, it is also in 02, 03 etc. Changes for 2FKTxxA/2FJTxxA: 2FKT15A/2FJT15A - Issues hard drive Freeze Lock command to all drives on S3 return - Fixes a problem where the system hangs after a boot block recovery when custom defaults are set. This problem was injected in 2FKT14A. - Winphlash.exe now accepts 12 character passwords 2FKT14A/2FJT14A - Increases the number of parameters accepted by flash2.exe - Adds cfgedt2F.exe to the 2FJ514A.EXE - Ensures Loading Custom Defaults settings remain after the system is rebooted - Adds 12 character password support to the BIOS WinPhlash interface. Still waiting for the update of Winphlash.exe program to support 12 character passwords. - Fixes a Setup typo in the Automatic Power On help text - Fixes SMBIOS structures - Wake on LAN now follows the Automatic Startup Sequence - Fixes an intermittant problem detecting the hard drives when they are connected to connectors SATA2 or SATA3 - Fixes a problem that causes the SATA transfer mode becoming PIO after the PATA drives were disabled - Warning is now displayed during POST if a high power processor is used in the system - Improves the rear USB port signal quality - Adds Lenovo copyright statement 2FKT13A/2FJT13A - Fixes a problem that prevents some video device drivers from loading - Fixes a problem where the flash diskette hangs before the BIOS update starts 2FKT12A/2FJT12A - Fixes a problem displaying the MAC address in the Setup screen - Improves USB port signal quality 2FKT11A/2FJT11A - Initial Production Release Trademarks ---------- Lenovo and ThinkCentre are trademarks of the Lenovo Corporation in the United States, other countries, or both.
