Installation Readme


This firmware upgrade fixes several problems writing discs with Windows
Vista's native write functions:

1. Audio CD-RW Format failure
2. After CD-R UDF formatting, Explorer identifies the disc as an Audio
   disc.
3. After a CD-R is formatted, ejected, and reinserted, Explorer does
   not recognize the disc.
4. Buffer underrun protection is not enabled by default. 


Supported systems
=================
This package applies to the following systems configured with the HLDS
GCC-H10N SATA CD-RW/DVD combo drive:

- ThinkCentre A55 (type 9636, 9638, 9640, 9641)
- ThinkCentre M55 (type 6486, 6487, 6488, 6489, 8009, 8010, 8011, 8012,
  8791, 8792, 8793, 8794, 8795, 8796, 8797, 8798, 8799, 8800, 8801, 8802,
  8803, 8804, 8805, 8806, 8807, 8808, 8810, 8811, 8812, 8813, 8814, 8816)
- ThinkCentre M55e (type 9642, 9643, 9644, 9645)
- ThinkCentre M55p (type 6487, 6488, 8792, 8794, 8796, 8798, 8800, 8802,
  8804, 8806, 8808, 8811, 8813, 8816)


Downloading the package
=======================
1. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page.
2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save
   the downloaded file.


Extracting the package
======================
1.  Click Start, then click Start Search.
2.  Type hldsgcch10n_105.exe in the search field, then click Search
    Everywhere. This will locate the file you just downloaded.
3.  Double-click the hldsgcch10n_105.exe icon. You may see a dialog
    stating "A program needs your permission to continue". If you
    see this dialog, click Continue.
4.  Click Next.
5.  Click I accept the terms in the license agreement.
6.  Click Next.
7.  Ensure that "Save files in folder" is set to
    C:\SWTOOLS\FIRMWARE\HLDS\GCC-H10N.
8.  Click Next. The necessary files will be extracted to your hard drive.
9.  Click Finish.


Applying the package
====================
Note: This firmware upgrade requires the system to be restarted.  Exit all
applications and save your data before running the upgrade. Do not restart
or power-down the system while the upgrade is in progress.
  
1.  Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, then click Run.
2.  Type C:\SWTOOLS\FIRMWARE\HLDS\GCC-H10N\GCCH10N_105.exe, then click OK.
3.  Click FW Flashup. The firmware update will proceed automatically. When
    it is complete, you will receive the message "The system must be restarted.
    Please save all unsaved data before rebooting this system.  Would you like
    to restart this system now?"
4.  Click Yes to restart immediately, or click No if you prefer to restart your
    system later.
5.  The firmware update will take effect after you have rebooted your computer.
