Installation README


This update will replace the firmware in Samsung SC-148A and
SC-148C CD-ROM drives. IBM recommends this update for systems
that have a Samsung model SC-148A or SC-148C CD-ROM drive and
have a problem reading or booting some CD-R media.

The CD-ROM drive should be setup as the Master drive on the
secondary IDE controller to use this update.

Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation.


Downloading the update
----------------------
1. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page.
2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save
   the downloaded file, be sure to select a path that does not
   have a space in it's name.


Extracting the update
---------------------
Before you begin, have a blank 1.44 MB diskette ready.

NOTE: Do not interrupt the flash update process once downloading
to the drive has started! This can make your drive permanently
unusable.

1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and Folders.
2. Insert a blank 1.44MB floppy diskette into the diskette drive.
3. Type pz1t21a.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This
   will locate the file you just downloaded.
4. Double-click the pz1t21a.exe icon.
5. Follow the onscreen prompts. The necessary files will be
   extracted to the diskette.


Installing the update
---------------------
1. Shutdown the machine, then boot it with the diskette in the drive.
2. Depress the F1 key on the keyboard to go to the BIOS settings
   screen.
3. Locate the Startup options.
4. Ensure the the Floppy drive is selected as the first startup
   device.
5. Save your settigns and exit the BIOS settings screen.
6. Allow the machine to boot with the diskette in the diskette drive.
7. The CD-ROM firmware will be updated.
8. Once the CD-ROM firmware update has completed, remove the diskette
   from the diskette drive and reboot the system.
