ThinkVantage System Migration Assistant for Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 98SE, NT 4.0, 2000, and XP Version 5.02.0014 Installation Readme ThinkVantage System Migration Assistant is a systems manageability tool that runs on your Lenovo notebook and desktop computers. System Migration Assistant reduces the time and effort needed to migrate end users to a new system by capturing settings and data files from a current PC so that they may be applied onto a new machine. As part of the ThinkVantage Technology family of solutions, SMA helps provide a cost-effective migration process when users are moving to a new Microsoft Windows operating system. System Migration Assistant Version 5.0 can be used with the following languages: - Brazilian Portuguese - Danish - English - Finnish - French - German - Italian - Japanese - Korean - Netherlands - Norwegian - Portuguese - Spanish - Swedish - Simplified Chinese - Traditional Chinese System requirements =================== The source and target computers must meet the following conditions: - A supported Microsoft Windows operating system must be installed. - Hard drive must have 30MB of space free for SMA installation files. - Source systems only – must have hard drive space free for temporary files created during capture phase; drive space required depends on size of SMA profile created. - Target systems only – must be able to access the SMA profile file. You can use a local area network (LAN), a removable media, or an Ethernet crossover cable. Downloading the package ======================= 1. Click the file links to download the files from the Web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded files. Extracting the package ====================== 1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and folders. 2. Type sa5114ww.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This will locate the file you just downloaded. 3. Double-click the sa5114ww.exe icon. 4. Click Next. 5. Click I accept the terms in the license agreement. 6. Click Next. 7. Ensure that "Save files in folder" is set to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\SMA. 8. Click Next. The necessary files will be extracted to your hard drive. 9. Click Finish. Installing the package ====================== Clean install ------------- 1. Log on to your system using an operating system account with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start, then click Run. 3. Type C:\Drivers\WIN\SMA\SMAsetup.exe, then click OK. The "SMA Welcome" window will open. 4. Click Next. The "License Agreement" window will open. 5. Select "I accept the terms in the license agreement". 7. Click Next. The "Destination Folder" window will open. 8. By default, SMA is installed in d:\Program Files\IBM ThinkVantage\SMA, where d is the drive letter of the hard drive. To install SMA in a different location, click Change; then, select an alternative directory. 9. Click Next. The "Ready to Install the Program" window will open. 10. Click Install. Note: The SMA installation might require an updated dynamic link library (DLL) file. If your computer does not have such a file, a notification window will open and specify the steps that you must follow to complete the installation. 11. After the InstallShield wizard installs SMA, the "InstallShield Wizard Completed" window will open. 12. Click Finish. Update install over SMA 4.x --------------------------- 1. Log on to your system using an operating system account with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start, then click Run. 3. Type C:\Drivers\WIN\SMA\SMAsetup.exe, then click OK. The "SMA Welcome" window will open. The "Question" dialog pops up and ask user to continue to install SMA 5.0. 4. Click Yes to install SMA 5.0, click No to cancel installing SMA 5.0. 5. Click Next. The "License Agreement" window will open. 6. Select "I accept the terms in the license agreement". 7. Click Next. The "Destination Folder" window will open. 8. By default, SMA is installed in d:\Program Files\IBM ThinkVantage\SMA, where d is the drive letter of the hard drive. Unattended Install ------------------ Note: This is for system administrators' use only. - Refer to the Manual Install section, and download and expand the files. - At the command line, execute SMASETUP.EXE with the /S /v/qn options (For example) [Path where the files were extracted]\SMASETUP /S /v/qn Uninstalling the package ======================== Windows XP ---------- 1. Click Start and then click Control Panel. 2. Click Add or Remove Programs. 3. Select System Migration Assistant 5.0. 4. Click Remove. 5. Click Yes. Windows 2000, 98SE, or NT4 -------------------------- 1. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. 3. Select System Migration Assistant 5.0. 4. Click Remove. 5. Click Yes. Determining which version is installed ====================================== 1. Start Windows. 2. Click Start, select Programs, select ThinkVantage, and then select System Migration Assistant. 3. Click System Menu and select About System Migration Assistant... menu 4.
