IBM(R) Secure Data Disposal (SDD) for Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, or 2003 Server version 1.2 Installation Readme To install the IBM Secure Data Disposal program, double-click the sdd_setup.exe file and follow the instructions on the screen. The following information briefly introduces the IBM Secure Data Disposal program along with considerations of the program. Introduction ------------- Secure Data Disposal (SDD) is a Windows tool used to build IBM PC-DOS boot floppies for the purpose of wiping hard disk drives. Each boot floppy utilizes the Scrub3 DOS executable to facilitate securely disposing of data on a system's hard disk drive. Requirements ----------------- - System Requirements for IBM Secure Data Disposal Program: - Intel x86-compatible processor - 32MB RAM - Windows 2000, XP, or 2003 Server - 15MB of Hard Disk space System requirements for DOS tools --------------------------------- - Intel x86-compatible processor (must be able to run PC-DOS 7.1) - 8MB RAM - 1.44MB floppy drive or (optional) bootable CD-ROM BIOS support - 16-color VGA video - Hard disk controllers of type: IDE, EIDE, SCSI, or SATA - Hard disk drives with Int13 or Interrupt 13 extensions BIOS support - Windows 2000, XP, or 2003 Server installation (to create DOS bootable diskette) - 3rd Party CD Burning Software (to burn optional bootable ISO image to CD-ROM) Installation instructions ------------------------- 1. Download sdd_setup.exe from appropriate website. 2. Run sdd_setup.exe installation program. 3. You will be prompted to install the .Net Framework v1.1 if not already on your machine. NOTE: This prompt will occur even if your Operating System isn’t supported. 4. Follow InstallShield instructions. Files will be installed to “c:\program files\IBM\SDD”. A shortcut will be added to “C:\Documents and Settings\%User%\Start Menu\Programs\IBM SDD”. Limitations and workarounds --------------------------- The following are limitations and workarounds associated with the IBM Rescue and Recovery environment: 1. USB hard disk drives are not supported by Secure Data Disposal v1.2. 2. Creating SDD boot floppies may produce an error if another program is utilizing the floppy drive. 3. Some floppy diskettes must be formated before an SDD boot disk can be created. 4. Creating client reports on IntelliStation A Pro machines (model 6224) is not supported.
